This Is Me

Hey all,

A quick share of a layout I created for the Cre8tive Cre8tions blog.  I don't take to many self lies, but thought this one looked pretty reflective of how I look and feel these days.
I created a mask using my Silhouette Cameo, and did a lot of misting, and spritzing on this one.  The polaroid frame was also created on the cameo (one of my own files).  The kit is one from Scraptastic Kit Club, filled with Studio Calico papers, and Heidi Swapp mistable arrows, and Jillibean Soup stickers.  I really love how this one turned out.  You can find the flair badges I used in Andrea's shop here.

Thanks for peeking in today.  Have a good one.

Don't forget to come back on Friday for this...

See you then.

Using an un-inked stamp

That is this week's challenge at Use It Tuesday.

This one was a little tricky for me as I don't own a ton of stamps and almost all of them are in fact inked.  My scrappy friend Tara, however, was a sweetheart to lend me a cute set I was drooling over a few weeks ago.  She's sweet like that, she just let me take them home to use whenever I got a chance.  This was the perfect opportunity.

Here are the hoarded supplies I used on this layout.  Only the stamps are borrowed.
Studio Calico: stamps & cardstock stickers, My Mind's Eye 6x6 paper pad, Pink Paislee mistable trim, not shown
And here is the layout I created, documenting my love for Mongos, a Mongolian barbecue restaurant near our home.
My mouth is watering just looking at the photo.
Journaling read "Also known as my birthday restaurant.  I love Mongo Mongolian bbq.  I create the same dish every single time.  It's guaranteed to satisfy."

I stamped directly onto the photo using Ranger Archival Ink.  It has a wonderfully rich tone, and transfers easily.  You need only be sure to hold the stamp very still when applying, otherwise you risk smudging the image.
Jillibean Soup, and My Mind's Eye label stickers.  Journal spot is Echo Park

Pop over here to see what the rest o the team created using an un-inked stamp.  You have until the end of the month to link up your own creation, and get a shot at being our Guest Designer in an upcoming challenge.

Look At Us

Happy Monday friends!

I have more Let's Get Sketchy inspiration for you today.  I used these photos for Isabelle and the rest of the Hip Hop Small Group that performed at Triple Threat - Winnipeg back in November.  The dance to a medley of Justin Beiber tunes.  They were amazing, and earned a Judges Choice for the efforts.  We were so proud of all the girls, they worked super hard on this routine and were rewarded well for it.  Even better than the recognition was that they all had so much fun learning, practicing, and pushing themselves, together, as a group.

Here is Jenessa's sketch

A few detail shots

Once again the quality of these photos is sub-par, it's one of my least favourite things about the Winter season.  The lack of sunshine, makes is very difficult to obtain excellent quality photos.  If anyone has any tips to help me out here, I would be very grateful to hear them.
What I love best of about these photos is that Rob, their teacher made his way into them.  He's so talented, these girls are very fortunate to have such a passionate, inspiring, and nurturing teaching to learn from.  As parents we are thrilled that Kick It is full of just such teachers in every class.

Hop over here to see what the rest of the DT created with Bev's sketch, and link up your own creation.

And we have a birthday coming up on Friday.  Hope you'll join us.  There will be tons of inspo and prizes all weekend long.

I hope you're feeling inspired to create something beautiful soon. Pin It

Hello Friday

How happy I am to see you once again!

I have a Chic Tags quickie to share with you today.  If you follow me on Instagram you saw these photos of the girls last week (and if you don't but want to you can find me here)  The girls haven't had bologna in years, and apparently eating it is just like riding a bicycle, they still cut holes into it to make a face.  This time, however they both thought it would be hilarious to actually wear the bologna face.
See why I had to scrap the moment?  To me, they look hilarious, especially with their funny animal hats.  Journaling reads: "The things these monkeys come up with while we wait to occupy themselves can be pretty crazy stuff.  The girls thought these bologna faces were pretty funny.  Disgusting, and unsanitary, but hilarious."

I had one Love Note flair left that I was determined to use on this layout.  I really like the pop of red with the Studio Calico papers.  I also cut one of the blank Love Note Phrases tags and tucked it behind the photos on either side.

In case you missed it, you still have until the end of today to participate in Challenge Sunday.  Simply link on the Chic Tags blog for your chance to win the entire, not yet released Road Trip Collection.  Check out the details here, and good luck to all who enter!

Thanks so much for stopping by today, I hope you're in for a fabulous weekend!

Chic Tags Sunday Challenge

Happy Monday friends,

There is a brand new Challenge over at Chic Tags.  Veronica thought it would be fun to add a challenge to the blog on Sundays, so yesterday the first one was launched.  The challenge this week is to use seven items or less on a layout.

I chose the following items:
1. Assorted Chic Tags
2. Assorted Alphabet Stickers
3. Brads
4. My Silhouette Cameo
5. A Cardstock Sticker
6. A Flair Button
7. A Doily

Here is my layout
Apologies for the poor photo quality.  No sun = bad photos

Super cute Cre8tive Cre8tions flair button
Technically I should probably be penalized because I added machine stitching to this layout once it was finished (it just didn't look complete), so that should probably be a separate item.  I won't tell if you don't.

I like that we've added a challenge to the blog, and hope you'll decide to play along.  There's a great
"win it before you can buy it" prize being offered this week.  Hop over to the Chic Tags blog to check it out, and see what a few of the other dt members came up with.

Thanks for stopping by today friends! Pin It

Happy V-Day to My Guy

I know Valentine's Day is still a big day for so many couples, but here in the Funk household, we do things just a little different.  D and I started celebrating the holiday with the girls a few years ago.  Nothing too fancy, sometimes flowers, sometimes a date, but more times than not dinner at home with dessert, pop out of champagne glasses, and sweet love notes at each spot.

I thought I'd change it up just a bit this year and create a little something for hubby.  Not sure if he'll appreciate it as much as I, but I'm hoping he realizes the thought and love that went into it, and know how happy he's made me with this little life we've built together.

One of the teachers at the LSS where I work found this little envelope mini album online somewhere, and I just had to make my own version, smaller, with more detail.  Here is what awaits the best guy I know.

Mostly Chic Tags, and Cre8tive Cre8tions product used with random bits from my stash.
This makes me happy to look at!  Our life together is not perfect, and sometimes it's far from it. But at the end of the day, we know that we both want to stay true to the promise we made before God, our family, and our friends to love and honour one another until death do us part.  All this in between stuff, kids, work, chores, getaways...it all works together to give us a sweet little life.  Blessed we are.

Happy Valentine's Day friends!

Brads, Buttons, and Fasteners

This week's challenge over at Use It Tuesday is all about these.  I decided to stick with brads.  They were the perfect embellishment to use on this lifted layout of one I found on Pinterest by Kinsey Wilson.  You can see her original layout on Pinterest here.  I just loved the rainbow idea, and thought it would be great for this challenge.  I can't wait to try it again with a different design I've got floating around in my head.

Here's my finished layout

And here are some close ups

Gorgeous Cre8tive Cre8tions flair, and chevron stamp, and Studio Calico wood veneers

I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut into the 4x12 card stock then backed it with patterned paper

Tab:Chic Tags, #3:My Minds Eye, Star Maya Raod
I also had the chance to break open my brand new stamps from Cre8tive Cre8tions (they arrived that same afternoon).  I used Versamark, and American Crafts Zing to emboss the wood veneers, add a few embossed stamped chevrons right over top of the stitching.

Hope you feel inspired to pull out your brads, buttons, and eyelets to create something wonderful.  You can get more inspiration, and link up your own creation (using your hoarded stash) right here.

Thanks for stopping by friends.  Have a wonderful day! Pin It

All About Me

Happy Monday friends,

I have some Let's Get Sketchy Inspiration for you today.

Isabelle and Eden headed out one afternoon last month to snap some photos together.  Just ask me how much that filled my mamma's heart.  They both managed to take some really great shots of one another.

Tabitha's sketch
I had fun using my November Scraptastic Kit, a TCW mask and some paint on this one.

I love the way these photos showcase Belle's crazy, fun personality perfectly.

Hop over here to see what the rest of the DT did with Tabitha's sketch, and to link up your own take on it.  I hope you're feeling inspired to create something beautiful today. Pin It

Coffee Filter Ruffles & A Winner

Happy Hump Day friends!

Last week, while searching for something to share over at Scrapping Everyday Miracles, I discovered a tutorial that I thought was so cool, I just had to try it right away: coffee Filter Ruffles.  You can see the link that I first discovered here.  I was so inspired by it, that I just had to give it a try right away so I could share it with today.

These are the images that got me so excited.
Cut the centre out of a few stacked coffee filters

To create your own ruffles follow these easy steps.  Grab a few coffee filters, and cut out the centre.  I'm saving my centres to use on another craft someday.  So I had to give it a try for myself.  I thought the ruffle layers were a little large though, so I cut them in half, both lengthwise and widthwise.

I then grabbed a handful of Studio Calico Mr. Huey's
and began dying the ruffles one at a time.

End result looked like this.  I did end up adding an extra shade of green.

You'll notice that the coverage is a little splotchy in some areas.
I decided not to worry about it, but just to go with the flow.

Using double sided tape I covered the bottom, front of the card and began layering.
I snipped off the parts of the ruffles that were over hanging.
To finish it off, I simply added a couple little embellishments,
and voila, a happy little card to add to my stash.

Have you ever seen a tip/technique or any idea that got you so excited you had to try it right away.  If so, link me up I'd love to see what inspires you.

Lastly I have a winner for my Kiwi Lane Designs blog hop.  I want to thank all of you for stopping by and commenting, and especially those that became new followers.  I hope to continue to inspire you with quality, and creative projects throughout the year.

Congratulations Valerie!  You have won my set of Tiny Accents Templates, and some fabulous Love Notes tags from Chic Tags.  Please send an email to sherrifunkATgmailDOTcom with your snail mail.  And I will get your prize out to you asap.  If I do not hear from you by Wed February 13, I will choose another winner.  Congrats again!

Home Is Where The Heart Is

Happy Monday friends,

Today is a day off for my kiddos, have I mentioned before how much I love to sleep in?  One of my favourite things to do on earth.  It was a lovely weekend here, a little work, a little dance, a sleepover, a scrappy date, church, and of course the Superbowl.  Good times.

This morning, I have the February challenge at Scrapping Everyday Miracles to share with you.  It's all about where you feel most at home this month.  That could mean different things to different people depending on your circumstance.  For me it truly is wherever I know my hubby and kids will be.  That's home.  If they all chose to live in the Arctic circle, I would have to find a way to make it work, because it just wouldn't be home anywhere else if they weren't with me.  Of course there are times where I love them all being away so I can have some peace and quiet, but what makes that peace and quiet so sweet is the knowledge that soon enough everyone will be back bringing with them all the noises big and small that make them who they are, and in turn make me who I am.

Here is the layout I created for the challenge.  The twist is to add journaling on a tag.

All sorts of bits and pieces to this one, mostly My Mind's Eye, and Chic Tags product
A little hard to see, but I spread some gesso and blue paint across behind everything.

I wanted the photo to take centre stage, so I literally centred it, then placed "love" themed embellies all around.

Journaling on the hidden tag is a quote I saw somewhere on-line (Pinterest perhaps)
"We may not have it all together, but together we have it all"
Hope you feel inspired to create a "home" themed project of your own.  If you join us you'll be in the running for a prize from this month's sponsor as well as possibly earn a spot as a future guest designer for us.  You can get all the info, and see where the rest of the team feels most at home right here.

Have a great week everyone! Pin It
